The Diabetology service at Ars Medica Clinic, located in the heart of North Rome, specializes in the study, diagnosis, and treatment of diabetes mellitus and its related complications. Through a specialized and multidisciplinary approach, we aim to manage diabetes effectively and improve the quality of life for patients living with this chronic condition.
Diabetes mellitus is a disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels.
The most common forms of Diabetes Mellitus are:
- Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (insulin-dependent): This form typically has an early onset, often in youth, and can be autoimmune or idiopathic in nature. It requires insulin therapy.
- Type 2 Diabetes (non-insulin-dependent): Affecting about 90% of patients, this form is marked by a reduced production of insulin and often by insulin resistance in target organs. Type 2 diabetes is frequently associated with risk factors such as obesity, physical inactivity, hypertension, and dyslipidemia.
Gestational Diabetes: A form of glucose intolerance that occurs during pregnancy, requiring specific nutritional therapy and, in some cases, insulin therapy.
Additionally, there are “prediabetes” conditions, such as impaired fasting glucose or glucose intolerance, which, if left untreated, significantly increase the risk of developing Diabetes Mellitus within a few years.
Our team of highly qualified professionals focuses on early diagnosis to detect diabetes at an initial stage, helping patients to prevent long-term complications.
Diabetology is a crucial field in addressing the growing problem of diabetes. Effective management of diabetes requires a multidisciplinary approach involving doctors, nurses, nutritionists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure patients can lead healthy and active lives despite the condition. Ongoing research in diabetology brings hope for improving therapies and, perhaps one day, finding a definitive cure for diabetes.
