At Ars Medica, We Offer Cutting-Edge Technology: The GE Discovery Digital PET-CT Scanner

Ars Medica is equipped with the new GE Discovery MI PET/CT scanner. With its unique and innovative technology, this state-of-the-art equipment, combined with the clinic’s excellent team, positions Ars Medica at the forefront of oncological and neurological excellence.

Compared to other available equipment, Ars Medica’s scanner provides patients with:

  • A significant reduction in radiation dose and administered radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Enhanced image resolution, allowing for the detection and monitoring of even small lesions, facilitating early diagnosis and the implementation of the most appropriate treatment.
  • A substantial reduction in scan duration (just a few minutes), improving patient comfort, minimizing motion artifacts, and making it suitable for claustrophobic patients.

At Ars Medica, PET/CT scans are available through agreements with major insurance providers and the National Health Service, all within a facility that upholds the highest standards of service.

In Rome, Ars Medica offers PET/CT exams using the most innovative technology available, with services covered by the National Health Service, major insurance companies, health mutuals, and health funds, all in a facility with exceptional service standards

A PET-CT scan (Positron Emission Tomography combined with Computed Tomography) is an advanced imaging technique used to detect tumors at an early stage and assess their size and location.

The scan involves the administration of radiopharmaceuticals, which emit particles called positrons. Nuclear Medicine procedures like PET involve injecting a small amount of a radioactive substance (radiopharmaceutical) to examine the functional characteristics of organs and tissues where the radiopharmaceutical accumulates.
After intravenous administration, the radiopharmaceutical distributes throughout the patient’s body, allowing for the creation of diagnostic images interpreted by specialist doctors.

Following a brief general health check and blood sugar test, the radiopharmaceutical is injected, and it takes about an hour to be properly absorbed by the target tissues. After this period, the imaging process begins, which lasts approximately 30 minutes.

The report will be available within 24 hours.

PET-CT is a safe, painless exam with no side effects, conducted in a controlled environment. After a brief consultation with the Nuclear Medicine physician and a blood sugar check, the radiopharmaceutical is injected.
The radioactivity from the radiopharmaceutical dissipates quickly from the body, and the radiation dose is equivalent to that of a standard X-ray.

No, the only contraindication for undergoing a PET-CT scan is pregnancy.
